Hi Bec,

Thanks a lot for your comment and feedback. This is important for us and all Hostelgeeks users and travelers. I wrote you several emails and we seem to have found out what happened. I want to share our conclusion here as well for all other travelers.

You visited Kuala Lumpur (KL for short) in February, and we have been there just before you, in January. When we visited Penthouse34, everything was cool. After your comment, I took a closer look. The reviews are completely mixed: From super bad to fantastic.

Based on your description of the hostel, Bec, it seems like they have a second apartment. They may use this when there are more reservations. And this 2nd apartment is below average – to say the least.

CONCLUSION For Everybody
Hostel Penthouse34 is great, BUT you may end up at their second apartment. Personally, I had a great time, but Bec did not enjoy it at all.
For my friends, I would recommend staying at Mingle Highstreet. It is the absolute BEST BET for Hostels in Kuala Lumpur. Super central in China Town, a cool bar downstairs, clean, and social.

Thanks again, Bec! We now follow each other on Insta, excited to see your travels!
Matt

Update March: We now completely updated our guide for the coolest hostels in KL.

Those photos must have been when it was brand new because it is rundown, dirty and disgusting. I just checked in and am utterly speechless and how the description you have provided is nothing like real life.
