I got hospitalised in Thailand with Spontaneous Pneumothorax, the doctors told me its regular INSURED EMERGENCY CASE! MAP from Safety Wings tried to BARGAIN the hospital for too long NOT TO PAY THE FULL PRICE OF MY TREATMENT, so I had to pay all bills beforehand by myself because all their bargaining postponed my urgent treatment while I WAS IN A SEVERE PAIN!! The Pakistani guy is their so-called Medical Audit Professional, after my doctor talked to him he said “He is not a doctor, he has no medical knowledge!”

By now I still didn’t get payed! They offer money to my hospital directly (half price) and now rejecting to pay me anything??? Easy target! Just find a stupid excuses, no need to pay!

PLEASE NEVER TRYST THIS COMPANY! THET ARE FRAUDS NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANY!

It wasn’t cheap at $136 per month due to my age. My flight was postponed repeatedly by the airline for 11 days. I submitted a claim for delayed departure. They didn’t pay, nor did they even email me saying they would not pay. They created a file that you had to log in to see (who knows?). They also took the next months’ payment early b4 I could cancel. Then repeated the trick on July 4th when they knew American banks would be closed + not really a day when anyone checks their bank statements. Whenever I try to contact them I get some online remote worker who has no authority, just wastes your time.

I recently had a medical emergency and amidst delays, they refused to provide a guarantee of payment for a procedure that was very costly (read that they provide GOP for other illnesses so its very subjective). This was a moment I needed them most and they wiped their hands clean. When buying insurance, please make sure they cover you upfront for costly procedures. That’s where travel insurance counts most.

My feedback is that IMG’s annual global medical insurance plan is not comparable to the other plans listed. Instead, IMG offers their Patriot Travel medical plan that would be a better fit for this article. The Patriot plan is a monthly travel medical plan but can be renewed and extended for more than a year.

Other plans to consider:
> GeoBlue Voyager for US citizens abroad, HCC’s Atlas travel insurance plan. and the Liaison plan from Seven Corners.

I have researched them too and consider them a great insurer overall, though far from perfect still.

Don’t trust them. Don’t keep the slightest hope that they will be there when you need them. They won’t.

Hi Sirguy,

Have to checked with Safetwing? Under 65, finding health insurance and travel insurance should be still relatively easy.
Safetywing covers until 69 years old. World Nomads’ age limits on certain products go as high as 70.

Thanks a lot, Matt

I’m looking for a good annual travel insurance plan for my wife and me. We are very active 61 year olds who love to travel. We take about 5 trips per year, both in the US and abroad. I heard Allianz has a good annual plan, but I need other recommendations to cover at least up to $10,000 in interruptions. We do have a credit card (chase sapphire) that covers most of our insurance needs, except for medical. Thank you.

I am a U.S. citizen but have only a mail-forwarding address in my home country, no actual residence. I am a permanent, full-time traveler. Although I was quite clear about this with WN, they accepted my premiums for three years until I submitted a relatively small claim, about US300, for treatment of bronchitis in Thailand. Then they declined to cover the claim because I did not have a permanent residence! I complained vociferously and eventually settled for the reimbursement of several months of premiums which covered the amount of my claim and a small additional amount. I am now with SW, which states an actual residence is not necessary. However, it is more expensive than WN the older you are. A senior traveler like me pays significantly more per month than the rates you quote for a 32-year old traveler. But in my research, SW was the only travel insurer that did not require a residential address. If anyone knows of another company that does not require it, please respond to these comments.
